Kroumovgrad

The Kroumovgrad Municipality is located in South-Central Bulgaria. It is a component of Kardzhali District, which falls completely on the territory of the Eastern Rhodopes. To the south it borders on the Republic of Greece. Deposits of minerals have been found, but have not been developed; the resources on the deposits are asbestos, vermiculite, serpentinized ultrabasytes and dunites, talcum schist and rock materials for coatings.

Balkan Mineral and Mining AD has conducted geological survey and discovered gold deposits. The total quantity of the reserves is 28 tons with high cut-off grade. The administrative center town of Krumovgrad is at a distance of 310 km from Sofia and 48 km from Kardzhali town. The nearest border control point is Kapitan Andreevo - 130 km. The nearest port Bourgas is at 310 km. Momchilgrad is the nearest railway junction at 32 km. Makaza pass, where a border control point is going to be built, is at a distance of 40 km from the city, and 18 km from the western border of the Municipality.
