Osogovo Mountain is divided between the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria. It is situated between the Kyustendil and the Kamenishka valleys and Slavnishte on the north and the Bregalnitsa River valley in the Republic of Macedonia on the south. Its highest peak is Mount Ruen (2,251 m). The rare species of the alpine newt inhabits Osogovo.
