Anevo Kale fortress

It is situated 3.5 km from the village of Anevo (Sopot municipality). It is located on an inaccessible rocky peak on the southern slope of Stara Planina, at an altitude above sea level of 850 m. Anevo Kale was built during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Two of the battle towers with preserved 10-metre walls stand out distinctly. The main entrance to the fortress is located on the southern wall of the fortification. The central citadel was adapted for independent protection. Near the remains of the fortress is located the “Ascension of Christ” monastery of Sopot.
