Historical Museum - Perushtitsa

The town of Perushtitsa is located not far from Plovdiv. South of the present town one can still discern the ruins of the once ancient town of Dragovets. The keep of Prestitsa, which was part of a defensive fortress from the town of the Second Bulgarian kingdom, rose west of it. In its long history Perushtitsa has proven to be their successor, bearing the name of the Slavic god Perun. The suppressed April Uprising of 1876 covered Perushtitsa in blood. The Museum of History has preserved valuable exhibits, which take the visitors back to that remote and heroic past.
