The “Transfiguration” monastery is situated near Veliko Tarnovo, 10km from Tsarevets. The “Transfiguration” monastery was founded in 14th c., but the modern buildings were erected in 19th c. The construction of the “Holy Transfiguration” convocational church was started by Kolyo Fitcheto. It has a unique architecture. Its painted decoration, created by the great Bulgarian Revival leader Zahari Zograf, is unrivalled. His work on the church altar and the “Wheel of Life” mural on the external wall of the church are worth seeing.
