Samuil’s fortress is a medieval fortress situated in Belasitsa Mountain on the left bank of the Strumeshnitsa river. In the fortress vicinity in 1014 in the battle with the Byzantines, the Bulgarian army led by Samuil suffered a defeat. The Byzantine emperor blinded the 14-thousand captivated Bulgarian troopers and left one guide in every one hundred with one eye. In 1982 the fortress was declared a park-museum “Samuil’s fortress”.
