The Museum of History houses approximately 30,000 exhibits divided into several basic collections: Ethnographic, Archaeological, Art, Photographic, Documentary. The Ethnographic collection shows the lifestyle and the means of livelihood of the old citizens of Samokov. Many of the fineries and national costumes exhibited here have been renewed with the years so that the collection becomes even richer and more interesting.
The Archaeological collection houses mostly Thracian and late Antiquity finds. The items are from a number of pit sanctuaries, found on the banks of the Iskar dam lake and dating as far back as 1 c. BC. The rest of the exhibits are from the land of the village of Popovyane and date as far back as 3-4 c. AD.
