Madan
The Madan Municipality is situated in the southeastern parts of the West Rhodope Mountains along the valleys of the rivers Madanska, Arda and Cherna. It borders the municipalities of Roudozem, Zlatograd, Nedelino, Ardino, Banite and Smolyan. It belongs to the Continental-Mediterranean climatic area, the South-Bulgarian climatic sub-area.
The territory of the Madan Municipality is 175 sq. km. The municipality consists of 44 settlements - 1 town (administrative center - town of Madan) and 43 villages, and the largest villages are Srednogortsi and Varbina. The settlements are grouped under the administration of 12 mayors and 10 deputy mayors. The settlement network is typical of mountain regions - dispersed settlements, most of which are larger or smaller villages, and one town functioning as economic, administrative and educational centre (Madan).
