Mount Moussala, Bulgaria
Mount Moussala (2925 m) is located in the eastern part of the Rhodopes. It is the highest peak not only in Bulgaria, but also on the Balkan peninsula. The name of the peak is of Turkish origin and means “the road to God”. The snow cover here lasts for eight months, and the temperature is above 0°? for only four months a year. Moussala can be climbed for about 3-4 hours by using the cabin lift from Borovets to Yastrebets and then taking the marked path via Moussala chalet to the top.
